• The kids are all talking about a new game and cartoon series called Bakugan. I don’t know much about it, but the cartoons are the Japanese anime style cartoon and seem to be entertaining with an ongoing storyline of “right is might.” What I like is that the heroes include some girl characters, although they have an annoying way of crying a lot.

  • Wow – this year we had lots of people pulling pranks on each other to celebrate April Fools Day. I have seen all kinds of jokes and pranks. I think the funniest one was someone glued a dollar bill on the sidewalk in front of the drug store. Then they stood a few feet away and laughed as people bent over to try to pick it up. As I was approaching the drug store entrance, someone else was already there trying to pick it up. So I didn’t fall for it but I shared the laughs.

There are a lot of games that I like to play. I’m a very competitive person by nature. I especially like one-on-one games where you don’t depend on anyone but yourself and you can get into the head of your opponent. Like Chess or Mastermind. I don’t like the games where cheating is rewarded, like Cribbage or Dominoes.

When I play, I like to win on my own strengths. Sure, sometimes I win because my opponent has made a mistake, is incompetent, or even had a run of bad luck. But those wins are not as satisfying to me as the ones where I truly play my best game and win on my superior strategy and game skills.

I wish the candidates felt that way about their campaigns. I’m about sick of the attacks on each other. That type of speech does not impress me at all.

  • Like half the people in America, I have a Nintendo game system at home, hooked up to the TV in my living room. I’ve thought about getting a Wii system, but to be honest, I don’t play game that much and I just can’t see spending that much money on a game system when I have other more important things to take care of with my money.

My favorite Nintendo game is Tetris. I can play that game for hours and hours, so I have to be careful that I budget my time and don’t neglect my other responsibilities in favor of a game. Usually I will play a version of Tetris on a week night if there is nothing interesting on TV. Sometimes I’ll play for a few hours on the weekend, especially if the weather is bad.

There’s something about solving the puzzles, line by line, that is very addictive to me. I keep track of my high scores on each of the different game options and never seem to get tired of it.
